LUCKY STRIKE!
Kyle Lewis returns to form in the second half of the AMA Nationals

The 2003 season did not start well for Moto XXX veteran Kyle Lewis. Actually, the season didn’t start at all until May. Kyle suffered a broken wrist while practicing for the supercross series. He didn’t make his season debut until the final round in Las Vegas where, remarkably, he was able to make the 250cc main event.

After finishing fifth in the 2002 Outdoor National series—the highest among privateers—sponsors and fans alike had high hopes for “Lucky” this summer. Unfortunately, circumstances would not allow another run like last year. Kyle offered his observations of the situation.

“The first half of the outdoor series was tough for a lot of reasons”, he explains. “My wrist was still bothering me, plus I injured a finger at Mt. Morris. Because of my wrist, I wasn’t able to ride in preparation for the nationals and that meant that I had to race my way back into shape. It took a while to get to the point where I could ride a full moto at top speed.”

A two-week break in July was just what #23 needed. He finished 9th overall at Unadilla, followed that up with a 6th place showing at Washougal and hasn’t finished outside of the top ten since. This resurgence has seen his placing in the points rise to twelfth. With two rounds remaining, he won’t be able to gain many more places, but his determination to go out on a high note is unmistakable.

“I can’t thank my fans and sponsors enough for their support this year”, he says. “There’s not a lot I can do to improve my final ranking, but I want to finish the season with two solid rides. After that, I’m going to put my head down, train hard and come back fighting in ’04.”

Moto XXX would like to thank the following sponsors for their support in 2003, because without them, it couldn’t be done.
